Tuition Waiver Benefit for Graduate-Level Dependents

Beginning with the summer 2018 academic semester, employees with dependents in graduate-level classes will be taxed on the tuition waiver benefits provided to employees from the university. Per the IRS guidelines, these taxes will be withheld based on the employee’s exemption and filing status, which can be found on their W4 form. Tuition waiver benefits are used on an academic or fiscal year basis, while taxes are calculated by the calendar year.

Tax deductions will be spread out over the semester rather than being withheld from a single paycheck. Employees who would prefer to take the one-time deduction option may contact Payroll.

For more information about the tuition waiver benefit, contact Benefits
